But that’s what it feels like to play Chronos in VR. Even when I’m utterly absorbed in a game’s world, I don’t feel like I’ve been transported inside my monitor.

That no game I’ve ever played on a monitor or TV has ever done for me. But Chronos did something for me that Zelda never could. As Wes wrote in his review: "This is a tried-and-true action RPG in the Zelda vein, with timing-heavy combat and puzzle solving that feel more than a little familiar. You can also run around normally if you have a stomach of steel, but Cyan has made each point you can hop to feel interesting and intentional, rather than just another dot on the path.Ĭhronos is one of the finest examples of an existing genre being imported into VR and gaining an immense boost of immersion in the process. The mechanics and pacing of the game didn’t need to be compromised at all to make it ideal for VR. You jump between set points in the world, then have time to look at your surroundings and take everything in. It feels like you are actually in and exploring a classic Myst world, but there’s nothing old-fashioned about physically leaning your body in toward something to get a better look.īut the reason Obduction really works well in VR is because the original Myst movement scheme was practically tailormade for Virtual Reality.
In Tom's review, he said that it “remains faithful to Myst without feeling dated,” and that goes doubly in VR. A spiritual successor to Myst and Riven made by the original development team, Obduction is filled with environmental puzzles and clues hidden in plain site to help you solve them. It is speculated that Pebja Xvyyre worked with some other branch of Outreach.Cyan has built a wonderfully detailed world for you to explore in Obduction, and exploring it in VR lets you notice all the tiny touches that you might otherwise skip by. It is assumed there is some sort of task force to intervene in the case of threats to dimensional stability, but the existence of this has not yet been confirmed. It is currently unknown if any other branches of Outreach exist. Nezbe Raq works as an Outreach retrieval agent, once tasked with hunting down and bringing home Bgure Urneg-Syntax and Ohea. Their stated purpose is to find and retrieve Orgjrrans that are reported as missing and are suspected of being inside other universes. Retrieval agents are one of the only groups authorized to interfere in other universes. As an Outreach observation agent, Oculus broke this oath, and was forced to escape into Earth-OCU. Observation agents take a solemn oath never to interfere in the affairs of a universe, only reporting to Outreach Command so that they make take actions they deem appropriate. The Observation branch of Outreach is a group that keeps watch over various universes to monitor them for potential threats to interdimensional stability. Yrfovna Urneg used to work as an Outreach Explorer.

One of the less active branches of Outreach, the Outreach Exploratory Division is a group of explorers and adventurers who chart undiscovered sections of Orgjrra and other new universes to update the Database with up to date information to try and cut down on accidental stumbling. Ohea is the foremost expert on Earth-OCU in the Database. The stated purpose of the Database is to ensure that cultures and people live together in harmony, while being informed of each other's customs and practices. The Outreach Database gathers information from various users, though Outreach itself ensures the data is accurate. The Outreach Database is a repository of information on the various worlds, people and other details that make up Orgjrra and connected universes. Outreach serves a variety of purposes and therefore has a variety of distinct branches. Outreach is the only organized government throughout Orgjrra, covering high-level exploration, monitoring and rescue operations in the various universes connected to Orgjrra, as well as managing a database on beings and worlds.
